Traditional Building Process

There are many steps in the Traditional Construction Process. As efficiency codes have come into effect in recent years, new construction technologies and methods have emerged. University Construction Management departments are on the cutting edge of the newest methods of construction intended to improve efficiency, performance and reduce construction waste. With California's New Construction Residential Regulations, i.e. Assembly Bill 32, this new legislation will require that all New Construction Residential Homes to be built to Net-Zero Energy Standards by 2020.

Modular buildings and Modular Homes are sectional prefabricated buildings, or houses, that consist of multiple sections called modules. "Modular" is a method of construction verses "stick-built" and other methods such as off-site construction. The modules are six side boxes constructed in a remote facility, then delivered to their intended site of use. Using a crane, the modules are set onto the building's foundation and joined together to make a single building. The modules can be places side-by-side, end-to-end, or stacked, allowing a wide variety of configuration and styles in the building layout.

structural Insulated Panels (SIP’s)

Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are a high performance building system for residential and light commercial construction. The panels consist of an insulating foam core sandwiched between two structural facings, typically oriented strand board (OSB). SIPs are manufactured under factory controlled conditions and can be fabricated to fit nearly any building design. The result is a building system that is extremely strong, energy efficient and cost effective. Building with SIPs will save you time, money and labor.
